Al-Farouq Aminu

Al-Farouq Aminu

College: Wake Forest

Class: Freshman

Position: SF/PF

Height: 6’9”

Weight: 215lbs

Accolades: McDonald’s All-American - high school (08), First Team Parade All-American - high school (08), Mr. Georgia Basketball - high school (08), Second Team All-USA - USA Today - high school (08).

Scouting Report: A inside/outside threat with an NBA body.

Strengths: Terrific athlete. Wingspan measures in at 7’2”. Explosive player. Good body control. Great at driving/slashing to the hoop. Quick feet on defense. Fabulous rebounder - really battles for the boards. Versatile - can play inside or out. Fantastic size for an NBA small forward. Very good shot blocker.

Weaknesses: Can be too predictable on offense - likes to put the ball on the floor and drive the majority of the time. Needs to work on his outside shot. Turns the ball over too much. Not a big-time scorer on the college level. Mediocre free throw shooter. Still is raw - needs more experience. Had legal issues in high school.

Projected 2009 Draft Range: Top 10 pick.

Consensus: Al-Farouq Aminu has all the makings of an above average NBA player. He probably could use another year in college to improve his outside shot, but his size and athleticism are NBA-ready right now.

great analysis

spot on, he just needs to work on his outside shot but has great NBA potential. I may be wrong, but he reminds me of Luol Deng (only watched him a few times) with his long body and ability to score 15 points without you even knowing it.

Aminu

don't know much about him but the sixers (whom some think will be where aminu is picked) biggest need assuming Iguodola is still here is a dominant rebounding force and or a lights out shooter, so many nights we were beaten up inside. I like dalembert as a shot blocker but a starting center needs to average more than the 8 he averaged if you want to win, especially when you don't have a legitemate outside threat (which we don't have) to keep teams honest. so, unless a big time shooter is available we should go big.
