Aubrey Coleman: CUSA Player of the Week

February 9th, 2009

Aubrey Coleman, Houston

Junior, G, Houston, Texas

Coleman averaged a double-double on the week (28.5 ppg and 11 rpg) as he helped lead the Cougars to a pair of C-USA wins over UCF and Rice. He now has eight double-doubles on the season. On Feb. 4 at UCF, Coleman scored 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, becoming just the 10th player in school history to record back-to-back 30-point games and first since the 1991-92 season. In Saturday's win against crosstown rival Rice, he scored 21 of his game-high 27 points in the second half. He also hit 22-of-24 free throws on the week. This is Coleman's first Player of the Week honor, but he is a four-time Rookie of the Week winner.

Tyreke Evans, Memphis

Freshman, G, Chester, Pa.

Evans helped lead the Tigers to a 2-0 week with road wins over SMU and No. 18 Gonzaga as Memphis extended its current win streak to 14 straight (second longest in nation). For the week, Evans averaged 24.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists. He came within a point of tying his season high with 26 points against SMU, while adding four boards, four assists and two steals. Against No. 18 Gonzaga, Evans scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed six rebounds. He hit three 3-pointers in the first half to give the Tigers a 40-23 lead at the break. This is the seventh Rookie of the Week honor for Evans this season.
