Can someone make sense of Marquette for me? They beat Duke and got bumped to #9 in the AP Poll.. but they want down to the wire in games against Idaho State and Valparaiso.. not to mention struggling (down at the half) against DII Hillsdale. I know "a win is a win", but eventually these poor efforts will turn into losses.

John Thompson III gets more pub because he shares his name with daddy.. but his brother Ronny is also a head coach at Ball State. The two met yesterday in DC and no surprise the Hoyas rolled to a 69-54 victory.

It took two overtimes for a home Big East team to dispatch with Stetson yesterday. Granted, it was at South Florida.. but Big East teams shouldn't struggle against bottom tier Atlantic Sun teams that plays 9 freshmen & sophomores and just one upperclassman. The way things are going, USF and Rutgers might be battling hard for the Big East basement.

NC State isn't that good.. but their win over Michigan proves something we've learned often.. when teams like Michigan and Syracuse finally go on the road for the 1st time to face a legit opponent, they often lose. Is this the year Michigan brass finally tires of Tommy Amaker's mediocrity?

Denver wishes Yemi Nicholson was still around. The Pioneers were a disappointing .500 team with him last year.. but they've been simply awful without him so far. After losing 73-63 to Southern Utah last night, Denver's record stands at 1-5 with the lone win over 1-5 Northern Colorado.

Seton Hall probably is a year or two away, but Bobby Gonzalez seems to have a winner in freshman point guard Eugene Harvey. Harvey, a top 75 prospect, is averaging almost 13 points and 6 assists per game. His 15, 6 assists, and 6 boards helped the Hall cruise to an 80-60 win over St Peter's yesterday.
