Miami Signs Three On First Signing Day
The Miami (OH) RedHawks signed three players to national letters of intent on the opening signing day for college basketball. Set to join the RedHawk program in 2007-08 are guard Kenny Hayes (Dayton, Ohio/Northmont/Cincinnati State), forward Dwight McCombs (Chicago, Ill./Whiney Young) and forward Nick Winbush (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights).
Hayes is a 6-foot-2, 170-pound guard and averaged 19.1 points, 5.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game at Northmont High. He was named the 2005 GWOC Player of the Year and earned third-team all-state honors as a senior. Hayes was also a first-team all-league selection. Last season, he averaged 17.0 ppg 3.0 apg, 3.0 en route to second-team all-league honors at St. Catherine Junior College. He is attending Cincinnati State this year.
McCombs is a 6-foot-7, 215-pound forward and he averaged 12.4 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 4.0 bpg and 3.0 apg as a junior for Whitney M. Young High School. He is a three-year letterwinner for the Dolphins, serving as team captain as a junior and senior. Last season, McCombs earned all-conference honors. McCombs is being touted as one of the top power forwards in the state of Illinois.
Winbush is a 6-foot-7, 197-pound forward and he averaged 17.0 ppg and 8.0 rpg as a junior at Shaker Heights High School. He was an all-state honorable mention selection last season and also earned all-league and all-district honors. He is a two year letterwinner for the Raiders and serves as team captain this season.
