BU Tops Stony Brook in 4 OT's: Box of the Day
CHN now features a live scoreboard, stats, standings, etc.. here. Occasionally, we'll be featuring a box score of the day, with some commentary on why the box score is interesting. It might be involve a huge upset, a big personal effort, some odd statistical occurrences, or other intriguing tidbit.
Box Score of the Day:
Today's pick is.. BU's quadruple overtime win over Stony Brook.
While the viewing public was forced to snooze through last night's disappointing Big Monday schedule, the best game of the day came early in the afternoon when Boston University beat Stony Brook 99-97.. in FOUR OVERTIMES. That's a lot of bonus basketball. Only 518 people were on hand due to the odd start time, and the fact that this is after all America East basketball, but those 518 were on for a treat.
A couple names and numbers stand out. BU's John Holland played all 60 minutes.. that's a full three periods of NHL Hockey. The Terriers leader and All-Conference candidate Corey Lowe had 33 points, 8 boards, and 7 assists. For Stony Brook, the biggest shot of the game was Muhammed El-Amin's game-tying three at regulation. Amazingly, the score was a ho hum 56-56 after 40 minutes. But in the extra 20 minutes, the scoreboard was lit up for 84 combined points. While El-Amin hit that clutch shot, perhaps the best overall performance was by reserve guard Chris Martin. Martin only averages 8.5 ppg and had never broken 20 before, but the sophomore broke out for 26 points on 4-5 shooting from three. Coming into the day, Martin had only hit 2 threes in the previous 16 games.
