BubbleBoard: Who's In & Who's Out
Updated as of 3/06/09, 12:10 pm.
The BubbleBoard is a new feature on CHN that ranks at-large contenders using a variety of standard resume components. The core of the ranking is the RPI, and like the RPI, the better you are, the lower your total score is. Bonus points are awarded for Top 50 success (particularly) & Road/Neutral wins. Further bonuses are awarded for playing challenging schedules, and to a lesser extent, challenging schedules in non-conference play.
The key reason the BubbleBoard exists is to expose teams that have performed extremely poorly in Top 50 games and games away from home. Ultimately, you want tourney teams capable of competing with the best away from home.
Interesting changes since previous update on 3/02
- Oklahoma St and Minnesota move closer to lock status.
- Ohio St is perhaps the last relatively safe team in the list.
- Arizona, Virginia Tech, and Kentucky took the big hits this week. AZ & UK due to bad losses, VT in large part because their Top 50 wins over Miami were lost with Hurricane dropping to 52nd.
- New Mexico, Penn State, and Oklahoma St are the big gainers. Temple gains points due to reclaiming a lost Top 50 win.
Faker teams include: George Mason, San Diego St, South Carolina, Siena, UAB, USC. (USC joins the faker list. Oklahoma St is removed)
Dangerous teams include: Boston College, BYU, Minnesota, Penn St, UNLV (Arizona & Kentucky removed. BYU & Penn St now dangerous)
- Baylor, Kansas State, Nebraska, Notre Dame removed from BubbleBoard
