CBS Coverage Maps: What You'll See on Friday

March 20th, 2008

One of the fun but also sometimes frustrating aspects of the NCAA Tournament is that CBS televises multiple games at once. This can lead to some exciting in-game looks at close exciting games, but it also means you might be missing the game you really want to see. CBS released their coverage maps of Friday's opening round action, and I've linked to the maps for each time-slot below.

Here's what important regions/cities will be seeing:

New York/Tri-State Area

12:30 - Davidson/Gonzaga

2:30 - USD/UCONN

7:00 - MSM/UNC

9:30 - Villanova/Clemson

- Only dud game is MSM/UNC which is being shown in most neutral regions (like Duke/Belmont at the same time on Thursday)

Los Angeles/Southern California

12:30 - Davidson/Gonzaga

2:30 - USD/UCONN

7:00 - Oregon/Mississippi St

9:30 - Arkansas/Indiana

- To me, this is the ideal set of games in each time-slot. That's a good day of basketball watching.

Chicago

12:30 - WKU/Drake

2:30 - So Alabama/Butler

7:00 - MSM/UNC

9:30 - Arkansas/Indiana

- Very surprised about WKU/Drake being shown in Chicago as opposed to Davidson/Gonzaga. Drake is relatively close by, but can't imagine more than 20 people would prefer that game.

Boston

12:30 - Davidson/Gonzaga

2:30 - USD/UCONN

7:00 - MSM/UNC

9:30 - Villanova/Clemson

- Same schedule as New York. I imagine many would prefer to see Eric Gordon and the Hoosiers, but VU/Clemson should be a solid game too.

Washington DC

12:30 - American/Tennessee

2:30 - UMBC/Georgetown

7:00 - MSM/UNC

9:30 - Villanova/Clemson

- Due to two local teams playing in the afternoon, the first two sessions are horribly lopsided games.  Neutral DC fans miss out on all the competitive games.

Smallest Coverage

Western Kentucky/Drake (3%) - The least covered game of the 1st round.. not surprising considering the small markets involved.

Siena/Vanderbilt (4%) - For some reason, people in Peoria, IL will get this game?

American/Tennessee (12%) - Overshadowed by the Gonzaga/Davidson which covers most neutral regions
