College Hoops Saturday: Your Commentary

November 28th, 2009

The Saturday schedule is lacking in big-time matchups but there are some intriguing games on the slate. La Salle and Villanova face off in a Big 5 game at the Pavilion and Dr. John Gianinni's team has the talent and depth to hang around with the Wildcats. And with it being the Big 5 you never truly know what's going to happen. Louisville had better be on "upset alert" in Sin City; Lon Kruger's Runnin' Rebels are deep with talent and experience, a recipe for consistent success.

And there are also some in-season tournament titles on the line; St. John's faces Temple at the Palestra, Rutgers takes on Florida at the Legends Classic and there's also the Great Alaska Shootout final (Washington State will play either Houston or San Diego). In games that won't be on national television keep an eye on Providence hosting Boston College. The Eagles are thought to be underrated in the ACC and they're visiting a young but talented group of Friars who can score.

UNLV over Louisville: The Cardinals are a good team and will be heard from in the Big East this season. But the trip to Las Vegas can be a tough one if guys become a bit too enamored with the bright lights, and UNLV is a very good basketball team. Tre'Von Willis and Derrick Jasper are just two of the players to be aware of and if they can stand up to Samardo Samuels and Terrence Jennings inside the Runnin' Rebels will pull the mild upset.
