With a three day gap before the Sweet Sixteen, it seemed like an opportune time to reflect on my preseason Top 50 ranking. Who lived up to expectations? Who didn't? Who exceeded all hype?

 

AP Top 25 Commentary: Gonzaga and Iowa State entered the field this week, with a bevy of teams hot on their trail. For Iowa St, getting into the Top 25 is a substantial accomplishment considering their recent history, and it helps their peaking at the right time. With this new ranking and solid Big 12 record, Iowa St could potentially play their way into a 5 or 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

 

The Non-BCS Top 25 is a weekly companion to the popular CHN Top 50 ranking, taking an in-depth look into the underrated universe of teams outside of the big six. The original Non-BCS ranking.

Creighton - 25-5, 14-4 MVC - #23 RPI, #30 Sagarin

Murray St - 25-1, 15-1 OVC - #29 RPI, #43 Sagarin

Notre Dame - 20-9, 12-4 Big East - #42 RPI, #37 Sagarin

San Diego St - 20-6, 8-4 MWC - #28 RPI, #49 Sagarin

Virginia - 21-7, 8-6 ACC - #38 RPI, #22 Sagarin)

Despite falling to 10th in the AP poll, Ohio St remains strong in the Consensus Ranking (CR). The computers were nonplussed by the Buckeyes loss to Wisconsin. Similarly, Missouri only fell two spots despite a pair of losses. The biggest losers this week were actually La Salle, West Virginia, and Marshall.

 

AP Top 25: Missouri drops from 3rd to 7th after losing twice, but the rest of the top 10 remains relatively the same. Outside of Missouri, other teams to take noticeable drops include Florida St (7 spots), Florida (4 spots), UNLV (4 spots). New Mexico fell out of the poll just one week after soaring to 18th.
