I should start this off by saying I am a New York Giants fan. As a result, the last few days have been pretty incredible. The Super Bowl win knocked Syracuse’s 2003 NCAA title off the top of the best sports moments of my life. For any fan, it’s fun to see upsets like that but you can’t really anticipate what it feels like when your team is on the good end of the upset (and I imagine the same is true of the opposite). And the reason I bring this up on a basketball Web site is because a game like this

When it comes to doing a Player of the Week, it is often very difficult to find the one player that was truly the best player during that week. Players from smaller conferences get overlooked at times, and players that put up huge numbers in losing efforts don’t even get much of a glance. When choosing one, we like to look at players who put up big numbers in multiple games throughout the week; did it against good competition; and helped their team win. However, with that criterion, it often knocks several deserving players out.

With the New Year brings clarity. Not only has the excruciating bowl season come to an end, allowing us to focus solely on college hoops, with the occasional Patriots hatefest NFL football game mixed in here or there, but with the start of ’08 comes conference play for the BCS leagues. This means no more North Floridas or Sacramento States or Prairie View A & Ms on the schedule. No, this means we will be treated to a bevy of decent matchups on a nightly basis, providing a meaningful way to discern between squads, rather than wild guessing, or even
