A companion to our daily Three Stars of the Day, we present the top three Games of the Night.
Three Stars of The Day
We handpick the best performances of the day, whether it be stat lines that make you drool, or clutch performances. Either way, its our way of showing the love:
OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton seniors Nick Bahe, Dane Watts and Pierce Hibma combined for 60 points as Creighton won a 90-84 overtime game over Saint Joseph's on Sunday. The game was the the first between the Jesuit schools since 1981, and all six meetings have now been decided by 10 points or less.
CINCINNATI, Ohio – Drew Lavender scored 28 points and dished a career-high 10 assists as No. 21 Xavier snapped a three-game losing streak against Creighton with a 79-66 win at a sold-out Cintas Center over the Bluejays.
Xavier improved to 7-1, while Creighton fell from the ranks of the unbeaten and is 5-1 heading into a Sunday home game against fellow Atlantic-10 school Saint Joseph’s.
OMAHA, Neb. -- A pair of local standouts have signed letters-of-intent to join the Creighton men¹s basketball program, head coach Dana Altman announced today. High school seniors Antoine Young (Bellevue West HS) and Josh Jones (Omaha Central HS) will both enroll next fall and be freshmen at Creighton.
The MVC's hopes of getting multiple teams into the NCAA Tournament are slimmer than they've been in recent years. Yet the talent level isn't too bad, comparable to other 2nd tier leagues like the CAA and WAC. The only real void is the lack of true go-to scoring star like they've had in Jamaal Tatum or Nate Funk. If his first game is any indication however, perhaps Creighton freshman P'Allen Stinnett will be that guy. Another guy off to a great start is Drake's Jonathan Cox, a 6-8 junior averaging 15 and 10 after two games.
