According to ESPN's Dick Vitale, Arizona head basketball coach Lute Olson will be stepping down, ending his 24-year run at the school. The reason cited by Vitale in an interview on ESPN News about fifteen minutes ago was Coach Olson's health. "You know Michelle [LaFountain], I know it will be denied but it's a lot of physical problems," said Vitale in the TV spot this morning. According to the Hall of Fame announcer, associate head coach Mike Dunlap will take over on an interim basis with Arizona conducting a national search for a successor.
ESPN* is reporting that Lute Olson will step down as Arizona head basketball coach. However, as noted in the ESPN report, Arizona has strictly denied this development. This report comes a day after Olson missed a practice and a usual Rotary Club luncheon due to health reasons. Arizona staff simply claimed Olson wasn't feeling well.
Unlike the NBA, where most starting lineups are set in stone weeks before the
season, NCAA starting fives are highly unsettled and constantly in flux. Going
through the BCS leagues this week, I'll be projecting the starting fives for
each team. Also included is the team's most important bench option, and some
notes on other possible lineups.
