DeMarre Carroll: NBA Draft Profile

April 24th, 2009

DeMarre Carroll

College: Missouri

Class: Senior

Position: SF/PF

Height: 6’8”

Weight: 225lbs

Accolades: Portsmouth Invitational (pre-draft camp) MVP (09), Portsmouth Invitational (pre-draft camp) All-Tournament Team (09), Honorable Mention All-American - CHN (09), Honorable Mention All-American - AP (09), Big 12 Tournament MVP (09), All-NCAA West Region (09), First Team All-Big 12 (09), Big 12 Newcomer of the Year (08), Big 12 All-Newcomer Team (08), Honorable Mention All-Big 12 (08).

Scouting Report: A whirling dervish on the court.

Strengths: Tough and aggressive player. Active - always on the move. Capable of big scoring outbursts. Can occasionally knock down the college three. Very efficient scorer - shoots for a high %. Good at drawing fouls. Very good rebounder, especially if he is considered a small forward. Active on defense - gets a lot of steals. Improved ball-handler. Effective in the post or on the wing.

Weaknesses: Will be turning 23-years-old shortly after the draft. Played mostly power forward in college - too small for that in the NBA. Doesn’t have deep range on his jumper - only knocked down 27 threes in his collegiate career. Poor free throw shooter. Can he create his own shot in the NBA?

Projected 2009 Draft Range: Early second round pick to undrafted.

Consensus: DeMarre Carroll is the textbook NBA tweener - too small for the post and not skilled enough for the wing. However, his hustle and stellar play in the pre-draft camp will probably be enough to get him drafted and maybe find his way onto someone’s bench as an energy guy.
