College: Arizona State
Accolades: Third Team All-Pac-10 (08), Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 (07), Pac-10 All-Freshman (06).
Scouting Report: A long, athletic post player.
Strengths: Has NBA size. Good athlete for a big man. Explosive leaper. Very experienced - played big minutes for four years in the Pac-10. Nice wingspan. Strong build - added a lot of muscle his four years in school which shows potential to fill out even more. Plays with passion. Nice hands in the post. Works hard for position in the post. Nice jump hook. Solid rebounder. Good shot blocker. Very efficient shooter. Fantastic free throw shooter. Tough defender.
Weaknesses: Has had trouble keeping emotions in check on court. Needs to improve his ball-handling. Foul prone. Spent four years in college so has less potential than younger prospects. Played second fiddle most of his collegiate career. Solid, but not spectacular scorer. Basically played center in college - too small for that in the NBA.
Projected 2009 Draft Range: Early to late second round pick.
Consensus: Jeff Pendergraph is definitely a player worth taking a chance on with a second round pick. While he doesn’t project to be a big-time NBA player, he does have the body, athleticism and some of the tools capable of making him a solid NBA role player.
