Milwaukee Bucks

2008-09 Record: 34-48

Key Free Agents

F Charlie Villanueva (restricted)

G Ramon Sessions (restricted)

Draft Picks: 10 (projected), 41

How They Got Here: To usher in the Scott Skiles era in Milwaukee, the Central Division’s bottom dwellers unveiled a new team motto: Ready to Rise. Unfortunately for Skiles and Bucks fans, two crippling injuries prevented Milwaukee from ever taking off. By the end of January, the depleted Bucks lost both Michael Redd and Andrew Bogut to season-ending injuries and stumbled down the stretch to a 34-48 record. Despite some bad luck, the season was not a complete loss. The Bucks remained in the playoff race until a late season slide, while Skiles instilled toughness and a defensive mentality missing in Milwaukee during the forgetful reigns of Terry Stotts and Larry Krystkowiak. (Twenty bucks says you can’t pronounce that last name.)

What they need: The Bucks are in financial trouble, meaning resigning Twitter aficionado Charlie Villanueva and fantasy gem Ramon Sessions, both of whom are restricted free agents, is out of the question. At least one of those players will not be playing in the Brew City next season, and will need to be replaced in the draft or by trade. Consequently, the Bucks will likely be in the market for a point guard or power forward.

Who They’ll Take: Arizona’s Jordan Hill would be perfect for Skiles’ system and provide the Bucks with some bulk at the four position (something Charlie V lacks). However, the chances of Hill falling to the Bucks at #10 (lottery projection) are not good, and the rest of the draft class is alarmingly weak at power forward. Expect the Bucks then to nab a point guard. My guess is they take a chance on Cuse’s Jonny Flynn, although a safer pick would be Eric Maynor or Ty Lawson. Brandon Jennings is also a possibility if available.
