NBA Draft Profile: Daniel Gibson

College: Texas

Class: Freshman

Stats: ESPN Statistics

Position: PG/SG

Height: 6”2”

Weight: 190 lbs

Accolades: McDonald’s All-American (high school) (04), Big 12 Freshman of the Year (05), Big 12 All-Freshman Team (05), Third Team All-Big 12 (coaches) (05), Third Team All-Big 12 (06), All-Big 12 Defensive Team (06).

Scouting Report:  A shooting guard trapped in a point guard’s body.

Strengths:  Scoring – Gibson has been a capable scorer both of his year’s in the Big 12.  Great three point shooter.  Very quick  - can get by his man to score.  Also gets his share of steals.  Good defender.

Weaknesses:  Is very small to play the off guard spot in the NBA.  When he was primarily a point guard in college (his freshman year) almost averaged more turnovers than assists.  Sophomore slump – all of his major offensive stats took a dive from his freshman to sophomore years.  Still very inexperienced only playing 2 years in college.

Projected 2006 Draft Range: Early to mid second round pick.

Consensus:  It is puzzling that Gibson has decided to declare for the draft this year, since his sophomore campaign was a step back for him.  He definitely needs some more experience in college to work on his point guard skills so he can play both backcourt positions in the NBA
