NBA Draft: Paul Millsap

College: Louisiana Tech

Class: Junior

Stats: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=15625

Position: PF

Height: 6”8”

Weight: 245 lbs

Accolades:  Louisiana Mr. Basketball (high school) (03), Fourth Team Parade All-American (high school) (03), WAC Freshman of the Year (04), Second Team All-WAC (04), WAC All-Newcomer (04), First Team All-WAC (05), First Team All-WAC (06), WAC All-Defensive Team (06).

Scouting Report:  A dominant rebounder and accomplished scorer with long arms.

Strengths:  Rebounding – only player in NCAA history to win three straight national rebounding titles.  Great strength.  Long arms.  Blocks a lot of shots.  Almost a guaranteed 20 point, 10 rebound man every game.  Dependable scorer – scored in double figures 32 out of 33 games his junior season.  His strength and nice touch allows him to score with ease around the basket.

Weaknesses:  Height – may only really be 6’7”, far undersized for a NBA 4 man.  Doesn’t possess perimter skills or speed to play the 3 spot in the pros.  Hasn’t played against the best competition in college playing in the WAC.

Projected 2006 Draft Range: Late first round pick.

Consensus:  Millsap hopes to have an NBA career reminiscent of Tech’s most famous alumni – Karl Malone.  While this is a long shot, Millsap’s strength and rebounding ability should help him stick it out a few years in the League.  However, his lack of height will definitely limit his effectiveness.
