NBA Draft: Shannon Brown

College: Michigan State

Class: Junior

Stats: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=15579

Position: SG

Height: 6’4”

Weight: 205lbs

Accolades: McDonald’s All American (high school) (03), Illinois Mr. Basketball (high school) (03), Big 10 All-Freshman Team (04), Coca-Cola Spartan Classic All-Tournament Team (04), Honorable Mention All-Big 10 (05), Most Outstanding Player – Austin Regional – NCAA Tournament (05), Michigan State Team Co-MVP (06), Second Team All-Big 10 (06).

Scouting Report: An athletic, strong shooting guard who may be too short to truly excel in the NBA.

Strengths: Scoring – Brown can take it to the hole and elevate over the defender to attack the rim, or step out behind the three point arc and knock down bombs.  Very strong and athletic.  Great free throw shooter.  Very good rebounder for a shooting guard.  Experienced – stepped up and performed at a high level for the Spartan’s in 2005 NCAA tourney play.

Weaknesses: Considered a little short to play the two guard spot in the NBA.  Doesn’t possess enough skills to run the point in the pros.  Can be streaky – in Michigan State’s last 4 games he shot a combined 13-51 from the floor.

Projected 2006 Draft Range: Mid to late first round pick.

Consensus:  Brown’s strength and athleticism has vaulted him above both of his Michigan State teammates, Maurice Ager and Paul Davis, in this year’s draft.  His height may be a hindrance, but his springs and muscle should allow him to become a solid pro.
