NBA Draft: Taj Gray

College: Oklahoma

Class: Senior

Stats: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=22157

Position: PF

Height: 6’9”

Weight: 238lbs

Accolades: First Team JUCO All-American (04), Runner up JUCO Player of the Year (04), First Team All-Big 12 – coaches, Second Team - media (05), Big 12 Newcomer of the Year (05), Big 12 All-Newcomer Team (05)

Scouting Report: Long limbed big man who can score downlow, rebound, and steal passes/block shots with his wingspan.

Strengths : Scoring in the post.  Blocking shots and stealing passes. Great offensive rebounder.  Can run the floor and finish strong. Good free throw shooter.  Body looks like he has the potential to pack on more muscle with no problem.

Weaknesses: Height is a question mark, as he could be anywhere from 6’7” to 6’9”.  Doesn’t have much of a face up game.  Is still a little raw with his post moves.  Lacks experience as he played 2 years in JUCO before going to Oklahoma.

Projected 2006 Draft Range: Late first round pick.

Consensus:  Gray’s long wingspan and athletic ability makes him a sure fire first round pick.  His shot blocking ability, springs and ability to run the floor will be assets in the pros.  He should be a solid player, but needs to develop a face up game and prove he can guard quicker post players who step outside the paint.
