NJIT Basketball finds a conference
According to Jay Gomes of NJHoops.com, the NJIT Highlanders will soon be joining the Great West Conference in all sports, most notably mens and womens basketball. The Great West, which began as a football-only league at the FCS level, will be expanding to include all sports and new members include a number of current Division I basketball independents. The league is slated to begin play in basketball in 2009-10.
Metro Review Part 4: All-Rookie & Bottom Teams
Now we come to the bottom of the poll, where there wasn’t much in the way of positives to be found this season. NJIT (0-29) completed a historically bad season, the worst winless campaign in the history of Division I basketball. With head coach Jim Casciano stepping down at season’s end the Highlanders are also in need of a head coach. Whoever steps into that opening will have a lot of work to do in terms of talent along with the confidence level of the returning players.
It's finally over...NJIT finishes the season 0-29
Well, if you're going to do something there's no sense in doing it halfway, right? Unfortunately for the New Jersey Institute of Technology, their move up to Division I has been a lesson in why you shouldn't rush things. Saturday, on a day highlighted due to Bracket Busters weekend along with the 1 vs. 2 matchup of Memphis and Tennesse, the Highlanders made their way onto "SportsCenter", and not for anything good. Here's the following exchange between Jay Harris and Stan Verrett on the 6 PM edition of the show:
Stan: I bet those kids are good with a slide ruler.
Northeast non-TV Bracket Busters preview
Here’s a quick preview of the ESPNU O’Reilly Bracket Busters games this weekend that will not be shown on television involving northeast teams. In most cases, the organizers of this event have done a better job of limiting the travel for non-television games, with the exception of UC Davis visiting Loyola (MD) among games involving northeast leagues. Bracket Busters, originally put together to provide schools in non-BCS leagues one last opportunity to add to their resume, now involves some 100 schools from sixteen conferences.
