Lots of changes at Marist...and some other Northeast news
Well, today marks the beginning of the Spring Signing Period, and many fans are awaiting the decision of guard Tyreke Evans. The explosive prerimeter player is said to be leaning in the direction of Memphis, and that's who I'd expect him to sign with due to the departure of Derrick Rose. But the school with the most going on in recent days has to be Marist, who will any day be gaining a head coach, but they've already lost two players.

Ben Hanbsrough Leaving Mississippi State
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State University head men’s basketball coach Rick Stansbury announced Monday that Bulldog sophomore guard Ben Hansbrough has decided to transfer following his spring semester at MSU.
“Ben is a good kid and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors,” Stansbury said.
Alex Legion Leaving Kentucky
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky freshman guard Alex Legion informed head coach Billy Gillispie Monday night of his desire to transfer.
“It’s unfortunate and not what I wanted to hear, but I understand,” Gillispie said.
“We met with Alex and his mother Friday, and she informed us of her desire to seek a release for her son. Shortly after that meeting, Alex told me that he still wanted to be a part of our program. He played in the game against North Carolina Saturday and seemed happy when I spoke with him Sunday.”
High Scoring Robert Mitchell to Leave Duquesne
PITTSBURGH – Head men’s basketball coach Ron Everhart announced today that sophomore forward Robert Mitchell (Brooklyn, N.Y./Notre Dame Prep) has received his release from Duquesne University, clearing the way for his transfer to another school.
“Rob felt that it would be in his best interest to pursue a transfer and we accommodated him,” said Everhart. “Rob is a great kid and we wish him the best.”
Chamberlain Oguchi Transfering to Illinois State
NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State head coach Tim Jankovich added an explosive scorer to his backcourt Wednesday with the announcement that 6-foot-5 guard Chamberlain Oguchi will transfer to ISU from Oregon. Oguchi was a fixture in the Ducks lineup the past three years, and helped them reach the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament last season. He will sit out this year due to NCAA transfer rules, but will have one season of eligibility with the Redbirds beginning in the 2008-09 campaign.
Qa'rraan Calhoun Leaving St. John's
QUEENS, N.Y. (August 20, 2007) – St. John’s head men’s basketball coach Norm Roberts announced that rising sophomore forward Qa’rraan Calhoun (Hazlet, N.J.) has withdrawn from the University and plans to transfer to another institution for the 2007-08 season.
“Qa’rraan and his family have made the decision for him to transfer,” said Roberts. “He leaves the team in good academic standing, and we wish him the best of luck with his decision.”
Creighton's Isacc Miles to Transfer
OMAHA, NE - Point guard Isacc Miles has been granted his release to
transfer from Creighton. The Kansas City, Mo., native averaged 6.1 points per game last season along with 2.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists. Miles was a member of the MVC's All-Freshman team and projected to be an important contributor for the Bluejays. Coming out of high school, Miles was a highly sought after recruit who garnered interest from many top BCS programs.
Scott Grote to Leave Duquesne Program
PITTSBURGH – Head men’s basketball coach Ron Everhart announced today that freshman guard/forward Scott Grote (Centerville, Ohio/Massanutten (Va.) Military Academy) has received his release from Duquesne University, clearing the way for his transfer to another school.
“Scott informed me that he decided it would be best for him to continue his college career at a different school and we honored his request,” said Everhart. “I informed Scott that we were only interested in players who wanted to be with us here at Duquesne. I wish him the best.”
