State of '08: The Three-Program States

What is the top D1 basketball program in each state.. and which program is the worst? While there's not much competition in Hawaii.. there are great debates to be had in loaded regions like California, North Carolina, and Texas. The State of '08 is a state by state ranking based mostly on recent success (the last five years) mixed in with subjective factors such as conference prestige, historical success, and overall program direction.

 

Q&A: Wichita State Coach Gregg Marshall

Perhaps it was a blessing in disguise when former coach Mark Turgeon left for Texas A&M.  The Shockers ended up hiring Gregg Marshall, the man who led Winthrop to an impressive seven NCAA Tournaments in just nine years on the job.  Marshall will have to prove his coaching mettle once again, taking over a program in flux:

Sean Ogirri Transfering to Wyoming

According to the Wichita Eagle, Wichita State junior guard Sean Ogirri has announced that he will transfer to Wyoming. "We're excited about Sean," Cowboys coach Heath Schroyer said. "He is a tremendous player who can come in here and have success. He brings to our program the experience of playing at a high level at Wichita State. He has made big shots in big games, including the NCAA Tournament." Ogirri averaged 9.5 points per game last season. He and two other players were granted releases from the program after former coach Mark Turgeon took the head coaching job at Texas A&M.
