Position: PF/C
Height: 6’11”
Weight: 255lbs
Accolades: Turkish League All-Star (08), Turkish League All-Star (07), Turkish U-20 National Team (06).
Scouting Report: A solid defending big man from Turkey.
Strengths: Good defender and great shot-blocker. Very good rebounder. Plays tough/strong. Good hands. Good help defender. Fairly athletic for his size – can get up and down the floor. Very good offensive rebounder. Good wingspan. Finished off the season playing in the top league outside of the NBA, the Euroleague.
Weaknesses: Still very raw. Will already be 22-years-old by next season. Needs to get stronger for the NBA. Horrible free throw shooter. Is he quick enough to cover NBA power forwards? Needs to improve shooting range.
Projected 2008 Draft Range: Late first round pick to mid second round pick.
Consensus: A very good defender and rebounder, Asik is still a bit of a project and would be best served to spend a few more years in Europe developing.

Background
Jeff Fox is a freelance journalist based an hour outside of Toronto, Canada. While attending University of Waterloo (Canada) earning a B.A. in Economics and Management Studies, Jeff managed to walk onto the school’s varsity basketball team, the Warriors, for 2 seasons. His final year riding the pine for the Warriors saw the team make it to the CIS (Canada’s NCAA equivalent) Final 8 tournament.
