Before They Were Giants

As the “Redeem Team” continues to plough through their Olympic agenda in reclamation of roundball supremacy, I would like to take a full timeout to pay tribute to the original cast of U.S. cagers that established our long-standing tradition of taking home medals (mostly of the Gold variety) from each of the 16 Olympiads that our men’s national team have competed in prior to Beijing. First, let me preface the roster of names with a quick backdrop of those early games.

Welcome to the quarterfinals. I’ll be with you live all morning. Tipoff is looming…
In games earlier this morning, Spain and Lithuania each won, advancing to the next round. No real surprises there, except it means China is out of medal contention.
Starting line ups:
AUS: Bogut, Newley, Bruton, Barton, Barlow
USA: Melo, Dwight, Kobe, Kidd, Bron
Here we go…
FIRST QUARTER
• USA win the tip. Australia starts in man to man and Dwight misses a hook shot.

Its Day 11 at the Beijing games and the women of USA and China are really holding it down thus far. Going head to head for gold in almost every sport. Gymnastics, diving, beach volleyball, its really amazing so I thought it would only be right to drop a sick shoe for the ladies. They deserve it!

Well, hello there. Even though I’ve been posting nearly every day for the last few weeks (thanks to Team USA), it’s been a minute since I had a chance to assemble a bumper crop of Links. But I’ve been saving some good ones, so I figured we’d just run through a smorgasboard today…
