The best coach in the country is with out a doubt Jim Calhoun. Calhoun makes his players better over there playing days at uconn. This is why uconn has the most players in the nba (14). The other impressive thing about this is that calhoun doesnt get the luxury of gettin 4 mcdonalds all americans every year like duke or unc does but yet he still pumps out great seasons and players.

Butler's Todd Lickliter is currently the best coach in the country. Afterall, he ran away with the votes for the midseason Jim Phelan Award, rewarded to the national coach of the year. Not only did Lickliter recieve 9 of the 20 1st place votes, he also recieved twice as many votes as the runner-up Ben Howland, who recieved only 2 1st place votes. Most importantly, this award is very credible as it is voted on by coaches themselves. Sure enough, he was not on the original list because it came out before the season started. However, if a new poll came out today Lickliter, whose team was shockingly projected to finish 6th in the 12th ranked of 32 conferences in the nation, deserves to run away with the vote.
