Big 12: All-December

All-November recipients Mario Chalmers, D.J. Augustin & Michael Beasley welcome a couple of newcomers to their club in this edition of the Big 12 All-December team.

Guard – Mario Chalmers – Kansas – JR
12.3ppg, 4.7apg, 3.1spg
Best game – Dec 8th – DePaul – 12 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, 7 steals

On a Jayhawks roster bursting at the seams with talent, Alaska’s Chalmers continues to lead the way. While still getting the job done on the offensive end, it is his skills as a master thief that is most remarkable – he snatched 27 steals in Kansas’ seven December games.

Guard – D.J. Augustin – Texas – SO

Best game – Dec 5th – North Texas – 29 points, 10 assists, 2 steals

While the Longhorns came back down to earth in December, dropping their last two games that month, their sophomore point guard continues to be red hot. Augustin had four 20-plus point games and dished out 43 assists in the team’s seven games.

Guard/Forward – Damion James – Texas – SO
13.7ppg, 11.0rpg, 1.3bpg
Best game – Dec 29th – Wisconsin – 21 points, 15 boards, 2 blocks

Like fellow sophomore teammate Augustin, James’ game is blossoming now that he is out from under Kevin Durant’s shadow. He had five December double-doubles and had double figure rebounds in every game except one, where he only grabbed nine boards.

Forward – Michael Beasley - Kansas State – FR
24.2ppg, 13.5rpg, 2.0bpg
Best game – Dec 22nd – Winston Salem – 40 points, 15 boards, 3 blocks

Beasley’s stats pretty much tell the tale – he is having a dominating, Durantesque freshman year. However, the Big 12 may be in luck, as his last game was the first time this year he hasn’t gotten a double-double – maybe he’s cooling off!

Forward – Bill Walker – Kansas State – FR
15.5ppg, 6.8rpg, 1.5bpg
Best game – Dec 9th – California – 30 points, 10 boards, 4 steals

After suffering a devastating knee injury his first year in Manhattan, O.J. Mayo’s high school running mate seems to be getting his game back lately. He had two double-doubles and cracked the 30 point barrier twice in December.
