Villanova Basketball Schedule: 2008-09

VILLANOVA, Pa. - A potent slate of 18 BIG EAST Conference games, a
December trip to New York City to meet Texas, and 13 national
television appearances highlight the 2008-09 Villanova men's basketball
schedule released today. The Wildcats, who advanced to the Sweet 16 of
the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four years last March, are to
play 12 games against teams that reached the NCAA Tournament a season
ago.

Villanova and Texas, which staged a pair of
entertaining battles in Austin and Philadelphia in 2006 and 2007 (the
teams split the series, each winning on its home court), will meet for
the third time at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 9. The game is the
second half of a Jimmy V Classic doubleheader that will be nationally
televised by ESPN.

BIG EAST action begins, fittingly
enough, on New Year's Day at Marquette (2:30 p.m. ESPN). After the
`Cats make their first appearance at the Prudential Center in Newark,
N.J. five days later against Seton Hall, they will hold their BIG EAST
home opener on Jan. 10 against Louisville at the Wachovia Center
(ESPN). This will be one of three appearances at the Center for
Villanova. The others come in February (Feb. 7 vs. Syracuse, Feb. 28
vs. Georgetown, both on ESPN). Villanova concludes its BIG EAST regular
season by hosting Providence at the Pavilion on March 5 (ESPN or ESPN2).

Two
nights on the slate promise a dose of nostalgia as Villanova helps say
goodbye to the Wachovia Spectrum in its final season of operation. The
Wildcats will host Pittsburgh on Jan. 28 in a BIG EAST tussle in their
first Spectrum regular season home game since 1996-97. Villanova will
also play its exhibition contest in the arena on Nov. 6, when coach
Rollie Massimino, who led the school to the 1985 NCAA championship,
brings Northwood University to town.

The Philadelphia
tradition known as the Big Five will be featured as part of Villanova's
December slate. The `Cats open the City Series on Dec. 2 at Penn before
hosting Saint Joseph's at the Pavilion in front of a national
television audience (ESPN2) on Dec. 11. Three days later comes a date
with La Salle at Tom Gola Arena. VU will close out the 2008 portion of
the calendar at the Pavilion against Temple on Dec. 29.

In
November Villanova participates in the second annual Philly Classic. It
hosts preliminary round games at the Pavilion against Niagara (Nov. 19)
and Monmouth (Nov. 25) before moving to the Palestra for a Nov. 28
encounter with Towson and, one night later, a date with either Rhode
Island or Penn State.

Additional schedule information, including game times and regional television information will be released at a later date.

With three returning starters from last year's 21-10 team, head coach

Brad Brownell
and the Wright State men's basketball team will play nine games this year
against teams that advanced to post-season tournaments last March as they
released the 2008-09 schedule Wednesday.

"The challenge of scheduling quality non-conference games has become
increasingly more difficult each year," Brownell said. "Having said that, I am
very pleased with the way our schedule turned out this season. Certainly, Wake
Forest on national television and a trip to San Juan are highlights. However, we
were also able to schedule good programs within our recruiting scope such as Sam
Houston State and Arkansas-Little Rock while keeping some of the regional rivals
like Miami and Toledo. I think our fans will enjoy the competition."

The Raiders open the season by hosting Illinois State on Saturday, November
15. The Redbirds went 25-10 and 13-5 in the Missouri Valley Conference last year
and lost in the second round of the NIT. The teams met last year in Normal,
Illinois as part of the ESPNU BracketBuster series.

The Raiders will welcome Miami, a CBI participant last March, to the Nutter
Center November 24 and will visit Central Michigan November 22. The Raiders will
travel Sam Houston State, which finished 23-8 last year, on November 29.

December begins with early-season Horizon League trips to Green Bay (Dec. 4)
and Milwaukee (Dec. 6). WSU will host Toledo on Dec. 9 before traveling to
Arkansas-Little Rock and then to Wake Forest for a nationally-televised FOX
Sports game on December 14.

The month continues with a home match-up against Norfolk State on December 17
prior to flying off to the San Juan Shootout to take on NCAA-participant Oral
Roberts, South Florida of the Big East and Murray State December 20-22. The
month ends with a home league game against NIT-team Cleveland State. CSU has
been picked by many to win the Horizon League title this year after playing the
finals last year.

January starts at home as the Raiders host Youngstown State January 3 before
a three-game trip to Butler (Jan. 8), Valparaiso (Jan. 10) and Detroit (Jan.
17). Loyola and UIC visit the Nutter Center January 22 and 24. Youngstown State
and Cleveland State will host Wright State January 29 and 31.The Raiders will
play in only two cities in February as WSU will host six games with two contests
in Chicago. 2008 post-season teams Valparaiso and Butler visit February 5 and 7.
Wright State will play at Loyola February 10 and at UIC February 18. Other games
in the month include home matchups against Detroit Feb. 14, Milwaukee February
26 and Green Bay February 28. The other highlight of the month will be a
non-conference ESPNU Bracket Buster game at the Nutter Center. The Horizon League
Tournament will follow the similar format as in the past, starting March 3 at
campus sites followed by quarterfinal and semifinal games at the site of the
regular-season champion March 6 and 7. The championship game will be played
March 10 on the higher-remaining seed's home floor.

Iowa Basketball Schedule: 2008-09

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa's 2008-09 men's Big
Ten Conference basketball schedule will include 16 appearances on the
Big Ten Network, with just one of nine home games set for a start time
as late as 7:30 p.m.

The Big Ten released the entire conference
schedule Wednesday, and for the second straight season, every Big Ten
regular season and post-season conference tournament game will be
nationally televised. Over 100 games will appear nationally on CBS
Sports, ESPN, ESPN2 or the Big Ten Network.

"I'm very excited
about our schedule this year," said UI Director of Athletics Gary
Barta. "The Big Ten Conference and the Big Ten Network stepped up in a
significant way by listening to our fans and eliminating the 8 p.m.
tipoff this season. We're building tremendous momentum with Coach
Lickliter's returning student-athletes and the new young men coming in.
I look forward to seeing Carver Hawkeye Arena full on a regular basis.
It's been a terrific week for the Hawkeyes - last Thursday we announced
the Big Ten Network agreement with Mediacom - and today we release a
great men's basketball schedule that eliminates 8 p.m. start times."

The
Big Ten Network and Mediacom recently reached an agreement that will
provide full coverage of all University of Iowa athletic events aired
on the Big Ten Network to more than 400,000 Mediacom customers.

The
Hawkeyes begin Big Ten action on the road, playing at Ohio State on
Wednesday, Dec. 31 (3:05 p.m. CT, BTN). Iowa opens the home portion of
the conference schedule by hosting Indiana on Saturday, Jan. 3 (3:35
p.m. CT, BTN. Of Iowa's nine conference home games, only the Jan. 21
contest vs. Wisconsin (7:35 p.m. CT, BTN) begins after 6 p.m. local
time.

Five of Iowa's nine conference home games are weekend
dates, with just one of the five starting as late as 5 p.m. Weekend
home games are against Indiana, Northwestern, Purdue, Michigan and Penn
State.

Sixteen of Iowa's 18 conference games will appear on the
Big Ten Network. Iowa's home game against Minnesota (Jan. 8, 6:05 p.m.
will air on ESPN2, while the home date with Michigan State (Jan. 29,
6:05 p.m.) will be televised by either ESPN or ESPN2.

Along with
the conference schedule, the dates for Iowa's non-conference games have
also been set. Start times and television information for those games
will be released at a later date.

Iowa's Nov. 9 exhibition
contest against Wayne State will provide the first opportunity for fans
to see the 2008-09 Hawkeyes in game action. Coach Todd Lickliter and the Hawkeyes open the regular season Nov. 14, hosting Charleston Southern.

Iowa
will host Iowa State on Friday, Dec. 12 as part of the annual Hy-Vee
Cy-Hawk Series. Iowa will host Northern Iowa Wednesday, Dec. 5 and
travel to Drake on Saturday, Dec. 20 to conclude its in-state series.

"Overall,
I think our schedule is challenging," said Lickliter. "It will always
be a high quality schedule with 18 Big Ten games and the three in-state
opponents. Add to that the fact that five of our non-conference games
are away from home. Learning to respond well to travel is part of the
process and we need to grow in that area as well."

Games vs.
Oakland University and Southeast Missouri State are preliminary round
games in the Las Vegas Invitational. After facing West Virginia on Nov.
28, Iowa will conclude action in Las Vegas the following night against
either Kansas State or Kentucky. Iowa's Dec. 2 game at Boston College,
which is part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, will be televised on ESPNU.

The
Hawkeye schedule includes contests against rivals from the Big East,
Big 12, Atlantic Coast and Missouri Valley conferences, along with a
possible match-up against Kentucky of the Southeastern Conference.

Michigan State Basketball Schedule: 2008-09

The Big Ten Conference office announced the 2008-09 men's basketball
schedule on Wednesday morning. Michigan State will face a slate that
includes 10 teams that played in the 2008 NCAA Tournament, including
defending National Champion Kansas. In total, 15 Spartan opponents
played in the 2008 postseason. Highlights of the non-conference
schedule include the Jan. 10 home game against Kansas, neutral-site
games against Final Four participant North Carolina at Detroit's Ford
Field and Elite Eight participant Texas in Houston, and a spot in the
2008 Old Spice Classic, which features four other NCAA Tournament
teams. For the second straight year, the Spartans will play an 18-game
Big Ten schedule, with single games against Wisconsin (home) and
Michigan (road).

"This promises to be one of the most exciting
schedules in recent years and certainly stacks up against any other
schedule in the nation," said Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo.
"In the non-conference, we are looking forward to playing Kansas in the
Breslin Center, as I've always wanted to bring the top programs from
across the country to our fans in Michigan and East Lansing. We are
equally excited to have another opportunity to play North Carolina at
Ford Field in Detroit.

"Playing in the Old Spice Classic during
Thanksgiving weekend will give us an early measuring stick for our team
against one of the best early season tournament fields in the country.
To open with Maryland, follow with Gonzaga or Oklahoma State, and then
possibly meet Tennessee or Georgetown or quality teams like Siena or
Wichita State in the final round, we are looking at a tournament with
three tough games. Our recent games against Texas have all been
extremely competitive and I expect nothing different when we travel to
Houston. It's a non-conference schedule that could feature as many as
six ranked opponents, while also playing a mixture of games in front of
Spartans fans, true neutral sites and games in hostile environments.

"I
think the Big Ten will continue to improve. Several of the top players
from last season throughout the conference return to their teams, and
with so many new coaches last year now in their second season, I think
we are in store for a very competitive 18-game conference season, where
the conference race will likely come down to the final week of the
regular season."

All 18 Big Ten games will be televised by a
national television network, including one on CBS, four on ESPN, one on
ESPN2, six on the Big Ten Network, one on ESPN or ESPN2, one on ESPN,
ESPN2 or the Big Ten Network and three on CBS, ESPN or the Big Ten
Network. Start times and television coverage for most non-conference
games will be announced at a later date.

Michigan State will open
the 2008-09 season at home against Idaho on Sunday, Nov. 16. Following
a road trip to IPFW on Nov. 19, the Spartans will travel to Orlando,
Fla., for the 2008 Old Spice Classic, which features one of the top
fields of any early season tournament. Seven of the eight teams in the
field participated in the 2008 postseason, including NCAA Tournament
squads Georgetown, Gonzaga, Michigan State, Siena and Tennessee and NIT
teams Maryland and Oklahoma State. The Spartans will open the
tournament on Thanksgiving (Nov. 27), with a 7 p.m. contest against
Maryland on ESPN2. The winner will play the Gonzaga-Oklahoma State
winner on Nov. 28. Following an off day on Saturday, the championship
round will be played on Sunday, Nov. 30. Every game of the Classic will
be televised by ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU.

A stiff test awaits
following Michigan State's trip to Disneyworld as the Spartans will
play North Carolina on Dec. 3 at Detroit's Ford Field, site of the 2009
Final Four. The Tar Heels are an early pick for the No. 1 team in the
polls as they return all five starters and top six scorers from a team
that posted a 36-3 record and advanced to the 2008 Final Four. This
will be MSU's second game at Ford Field, as the Spartans hosted
Kentucky on Dec. 13, 2003 in front of a world-record crowd of 78,129.
Tickets are available through all Ticketmaster locations and
ticketmaster.com.

The Spartans follow with a three-game homestand
against Bradley (Dec. 7), Alcorn State (Dec. 13) and The Citadel (Dec.
17). On Dec. 20, Michigan State will play Texas at the Toyota Center in
Houston, Texas. Last season, the Spartans handed the Longhorns their
first loss of the season with a 78-72 win at The Palace of Auburn
Hills. In the 2008 NCAA Tournament, Texas advanced to the Elite Eight
before falling to national finalist Memphis, one game after the Tigers
defeated Michigan State. The final game of MSU's early non-conference
schedule features the Spartans playing Oakland at The Palace of Auburn
Hills on Dec. 27.

Big Ten Conference play opens with Michigan
State at Minnesota on New Year's Eve at 6 p.m. This will be the first
conference game the Spartans have played in December since a 74-57 win
at Purdue on Dec. 30, 1997. For the third time in four seasons, MSU
will open conference play with back-to-back road games as the Spartans
travel to Northwestern on Jan. 3 at 7 p.m. Both the Minnesota and
Northwestern games will be televised by the Big Ten Network.

Michigan
State's Big Ten home opener brings Ohio State into the Breslin Center
on Jan. 6 for a 7 p.m. telecast on ESPN2. Five days later, Kansas comes
to East Lansing on Jan. 10 for the final non-conference game of the
season. The Spartans and Jayhawks have not met since the two teams
played in Lawrence on Nov. 25, 2003.

On Jan. 14, MSU travels to
Penn State for a 6:30 p.m. contest on the Big Ten Network. A two-game
homestand follows with league games against Illinois on Jan. 17 (4
p.m., ESPN) and Northwestern on Jan. 21 (6:30 p.m., Big Ten Network).
The Spartans take to the road for two more games against Ohio State on
Jan. 25 (3:45 p.m., CBS) and Iowa on Jan. 29 (7 p.m., ESPN/ESPN2).

February
opens with Michigan State's longest conference homestand. Penn State
comes to East Lansing on Feb. 1 (12 p.m., Big Ten Network), followed by
Minnesota on Feb. 4 (8:30 p.m., Big Ten Network) and Indiana on Feb. 7
(4 p.m., ESPN). The game against the Hoosiers will feature the first
meeting between Izzo and former assistant Tom Crean since he took over
the IU program. The lone meeting between in-state rivals Michigan State
and Michigan will take place on Feb. 10 in Ann Arbor (7 p.m., ESPN).
This is a flip-flop of last year when the two teams only met in East
Lansing, with MSU defeating the Wolverines, 77-62. In a game between
possible Big Ten title contenders, the Spartans play at Purdue on Feb.
17 (7 p.m., ESPN). Wisconsin and Michigan State also will meet only
once this season on Feb. 22. An official date and start time will be
announced no later than Feb. 1. On Feb. 25, Michigan State hosts Iowa
at 8:30 p.m. (Big Ten Network), followed by a road game at Illinois on
Feb. 28 or March 1, depending on television selections to be made no
later than Feb. 16.

In the final week of the season, the Spartans
will play both teams from the Hoosier state. In a mid-week contest, MSU
will travel to Bloomington, Ind. for a game on March 3, 4 or 5
depending on a television decision to be made no later than Feb. 2.
Michigan State will close out the regular season at home against Purdue
on March 7 or 8. The tip time and television network will be announced
by Feb. 23.

The 12th annual Big Ten Tournament will run from
March 12-15 in Indianapolis. The 2009 NCAA Tournament opens March 19,
concluding with the Final Four at Detroit's Ford Field on April 4 and 6.

Night on Feb. 21 against Oakland.

With
the loss of last year’s Summit League Player of the Year George Hill to the NBA
Draft, senior guard Gary Patterson (East Chicago, Ind./Bishop Noll) will
be IUPUI’s top returning scorer at 12.9 points per game. The 5-foot-10 guard hit
93 threes last season at a nearly 45 percent clip.

Juniors
Jon Avery (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield Senior/Harmony Prep) and Billy
Pettiford (Marion, Ind./Marion) remain important cogs in a beefed up front
line this season. Avery was among The Summit League’s top reserves last season,
averaging 10.7 points and 4.6 rebounds per game while shooting 63.1 percent from
the field. Pettiford netted 8.5 points per game and ranked second on the team in
rebounding (5.6 rpg), assists (2.8 apg) and steals (1.27 spg).

Hunter
also inked one of the program’s best recruiting classes in recent memory by
signing a pair of Indiana All-Stars, a Kentucky All-Star and some JUCO big men.
Junior Robert Glenn (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis/Wabash Valley J.C.)
brings additional athleticism to the frontcourt and last year’s City Player
of the Year Alex Young (Indianapolis, Ind./Northwest) could make an
immediate impact with his inside/outside combo skills.

the backcourt, rookie Larry Stone (Indianapolis, Ind./T.C. Howe) was one
of the state’s top playmakers a year ago, ranking second in the IHSAA with 8.0
assists per game.

to bottom, we’ve got a really, really talented team,” Hunter said. “We don’t
have that George Hill player that can take over games, but I think one through
twelve, we’re really deep. We can come at you a lot of different ways.”

Illinois Basketball Schedule: 2008-09

Another challenging collection of non-conference games followed by
the rigorous Big Ten slate highlight the 2008-09 Illinois men's
basketball schedule. A total of 19 home games will be played at the
Assembly Hall (17 regular season and two exhibition), and the Illini
will play at least 12 games during the regular season against teams
that participated in last year's NCAA Tournament.

Season ticket renewals have been mailed and sent via e-mail. Season ticket holders can renew online, or by mail, phone (1-866-ILLINI1 or 217-333-3470) or fax (217-244-4170). The deadline for renewals is Friday, Sept. 5.

"We feel good about our schedule and are looking forward to the upcoming season," head coach Bruce Weber
said. "We have a mixture of some very challenging games against teams
that made it to the NCAA Tournament and should be strong again, to go
along with some early home games that can give us the opportunity to
identify our roles and solidify our team chemistry. We have built a
schedule that should help us be seasoned by the time Big Ten play
begins. Our strength of schedule has been ranked in the Top 25
nationally the past few seasons, and that could be the case once again
this year."

The Fighting Illini begin the regular season with a
pair of weekend home games surrounding the Illinois home football game
vs. Ohio State. Illinois hosts Eastern Washington in the season opener
on Friday, Nov. 14, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday, Nov. 16.

Illinois
will make its first road trip on Nov. 20, playing at Vanderbilt. A home
game vs. Jackson State on Nov. 23 precedes a Thanksgiving weekend trip
to Texas for the South Padre Island Invitational. The Illini will face
Kent State on Nov. 28 and either Texas A&M or Tulsa on Nov. 29.

The
Illini have received a home game in the 10th annual ACC/Big Ten
Challenge, hosting Clemson on Dec. 2. Another BCS conference opponent
follows as Illinois takes on Georgia in the annual Lexus December to
Remember Classic Dec. 6 at the United Center in Chicago.

Illinois
plays three consecutive games at the Assembly Hall vs. Hawaii (Dec. 8),
Chicago State (Dec. 10) and Detroit (Dec. 20) before traveling to St.
Louis on Dec. 23 for the 28th edition of the Busch Braggin' Rights vs.
Missouri at the Scottrade Center. The Illini close out non-conference
play by hosting Eastern Michigan on Dec. 28.

Illinois will play
its first conference game prior to the New Year for the first time in
42 seasons, as the Illini open Big Ten play at Purdue on Dec. 30,
followed by another road game at Michigan on Jan. 4.

The Illini
return to Champaign to enjoy four out of the next five games at home,
hosting Indiana (Jan. 10) and Michigan (Jan. 14) in back-to-back games,
traveling to Michigan State on Jan. 17, and then returning to The Hall
for consecutive games against Ohio State (Jan. 20) and Wisconsin (Jan.
24).

Illinois closes out the month of January at Minnesota on the 29th and opens February by hosting Iowa on the 1st.

The
Illini then face a difficult stretch, with three of their next four
games on the road. That string begins with a trip to Wisconsin on Feb.
5. After returning to the Assembly Hall to take on Purdue on Feb. 8,
the Illini hit the road for back-to-back games at Northwestern (Feb.
12) and Indiana (Feb. 15).

Following that road swing, three of
the next four games are at home. Illinois welcomes Penn State to campus
on Feb. 18, plays at Ohio State on Feb. 21 or 22, and returns to
Champaign to host Minnesota on Feb. 26 and Michigan State on either
Feb. 28 or March 1 for Senior Day at the Assembly Hall.

Illinois
wraps up the regular season with a road trip to Penn State on March 3,
4 or 5. The Big Ten Tournament will be held March 12-15 at Conseco
Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

All 18 of Illinois' Big Ten games
will be televised again this season. The Illini will make at least six
appearances on ESPN/ESPN2, two on CBS and seven on the Big Ten Network
during conference play. TV information for Illinois' other three Big
Ten games will be determined at a later date.

Northestern Basketball Schedule: 2008-09

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University today announced its
2008-09 men's basketball schedule with the Wildcats playing a total of
15 games against nine different teams that reached the postseason a
year ago. The regular season tips off Sunday, Nov. 16 with NU hosting
Central Arkansas at Welsh-Ryan Arena, the first of 17 home games on the
slate.

For the second consecutive year, every one of the
Wildcats' Big Ten contests will be televised nationally on either Big
Ten Network, ESPN or ESPN2. Overall, at least four of Northwestern's
games this season are scheduled to be on either one of the ESPN
platforms.

The 'Cats have one exhibition game on their schedule
as they host local foe Robert Morris College Nov. 6. Following the
regular season opener against Central Arkansas, Northwestern faces
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi three days later.

NU hits the road
for the first time Nov. 22 when it travels to Providence, R.I., to
square off against Brown. A Thanksgiving Eve date at Butler looms that
next Wednesday as the Wildcats take on a Bulldogs squad that was ranked
in the top 15 the majority of last season and reached the second round
of the NCAA tournament.

Northwestern then returns home for four
consecutive games at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The 'Cats welcome UC Riverside
Dec. 1 just two days prior to a contest against Florida State as part
of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The challenging week of three games in
six days concludes with a matchup against local rival DePaul Dec. 6. NU
concludes the homestand by hosting UMKC Dec. 15.

A road trip to
Stanford awaits the Wildcats Dec. 20. New head coach Johnny Dawkins
inherits a team that advanced to the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA
tournament a season ago. The pre-conference portion of the schedule
concludes Dec. 23 when SMU travels to Evanston.

For the first
time, Big Ten Conference play gets underway prior to the start of the
new year. The 18-game slate begins Dec. 31 as Northwestern travels to
Penn State for an 11 a.m. Central time contest. It is the only
scheduled meeting between the Wildcats and the Nittany Lions this
season.

The 'Cats play three of their next four games at home as
they face Michigan State Jan. 3 in the conference home opener.
Following a matchup at reigning Big Ten champion Wisconsin Jan. 7, NU
has seven days off to prepare for a showdown against Purdue which
finished second in the Big Ten last season.

A home game against
Minnesota is on tap for Jan. 18 before the Wildcats conclude their
season series with Michigan State in East Lansing that following
Wednesday. Northwestern must make a return trip to the state of
Michigan just three days later as it heads to Ann Arbor to challenge
the Wolverines.

The 'Cats then tip off a stretch during which
they'll play six of the next seven games on their home court. Contests
against Indiana and Wisconsin precede a step outside Big Ten play when
NU hosts Chicago State Feb. 4. The lone road contest over the stretch
takes place Feb. 7 at Iowa before the team returns to Evanston for the
team's lone regular season game against in-state rival Illinois.

Following
home games against Michigan and Ohio State, the schedule turns in the
opposite direction for Northwestern as it plays four of its final five
regular season games on the road. Things get underway with a game at
Minnesota Feb. 22. After a contest at Indiana, the Wildcats conclude
their 2008-09 home season with a Senior Day showdown against Iowa Feb.
28.

NU heads to Purdue for a game that will be played March 3, 4 or 5 before concluding the regular season at Ohio State March 8.

The 2009 Big Ten Tournament is set for March 12-15 at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

The
Big Ten Conference is expected to release game times and television
designations for all non-conference games in the coming days. Please
check NUsports.com for updates as they become available.

UMASS Basketball Schedule: 2008-09

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts released its
2008-09 men's basketball schedule today as the Atlantic 10 finalized
the league portion of the schedule. The Minutemen will be playing the
teams that competed for the 2008 NCAA Championship in Kansas and
Memphis. UMass takes on the defending champion Jayhawks on Dec. 13 in
Kansas City. UMass travels to the national finalist Tigers on Nov. 17
at the FedEx Forum. That game pits new UMass head coach Derek Kellogg
against his mentor and former coach John Calipari. It will be the first
time UMass has played against Calipari since he left Amherst after
leading the Minutemen to the 1996 Final Four.

The 2008-09
schedule marks the first time UMass has scheduled the two teams to play
in the NCAA title game from the previous season. Last year UMass played
the two teams from 2007 NCAA title game, both in the NIT Championships
at Madison Square Garden, for the first time in history. UMass beat
2007 NCAA champ Florida to reach the NIT final and then lost to Ohio
State, the `07 runner-up, as the Minutemen finished 25-11 in 2007-08.

"This
is a schedule that is filled with great challenges, but one that we are
excited to take on," said Kellogg, who was hired to lead him alma mater
in late April. "To play against the two teams who played for the NCAA
title last year will be a wonderful experience and one that will get
the players and fans very excited. Overall our schedule is very
competitive and I think the fans will come out and support this team
that will play and fun and exciting brand of basketball. I hope the
fans pack the Mullins Center all season long."

The Minutemen face
six teams that played in the 2008 NCAA Tournament in Kansas, Memphis,
Vanderbilt, Xavier, Temple, Saint Joseph's and three more that played
in the NIT in conference foes Charlotte, Dayton and Rhode Island.

UMass
will have a chance to return to New York early in the 2008-09 season as
the Minutemen open the year in the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches
Vs. Cancer. The Minutemen will travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan for the
opening rounds in the University of Michigan bracket on either Nov. 10
and 11 or Nov. 11 and 12. The dates, times and match-ups have not been
set. Should UMass win its bracket at Michigan, they would return to
Madison Square Garden for the semifinals and finals on Nov. 20 and 21.
Those two sessions bookend UMass' trip to Memphis.

The Minutemen
host five non-conference games prior to Atlantic 10 play beginning with
the home opener on Nov. 24 against Jacksonville State at 7 p.m., in the
Mullins Center. After back-to-back road games at Wisconsin-Green Bay
(Nov. 29) and Toledo (Dec. 3), UMass returns to Amherst for its annual
Commonwealth Classic against Boston College on Dec. 6 at 8:30 p.m. The
Minutemen knocked off the Eagles last season in Chestnut Hill to
reclaim the crown for the first time since 1999. UMass faces Kansas for
the first time since 1999, in a game at the new Sprint Center.

UMass
wraps up non-conference play with three out of four games at home, all
on Saturday late afternoons. The Minutemen host Hofstra on Dec. 20,
IUPUI on Dec. 27 (both at 4 p.m.) and Vanderbilt on Jan. 3 at 5 p.m.
The Commodores are coming off back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances.
The lone road game in stretch is a return match-up at Houston on Dec.
30.

Kellogg kicks off the Atlantic 10 season with UMass'
much-anticipated return to his hometown of Springfield, Mass. The
Minutemen will play Dayton at the MassMutual Center on Jan. 10 at 4
p.m. That game has special meaning for Kellogg.

"It means so much
for us to play a game in Springfield," said Kellogg. "The connection
with the city and Mayor Domenic Sarno has been tremendous. Springfield
is working to become a world-class city and this game is just another
step in the revitalization of the city. We are very excited to host a
game at the MassMutual Center and look forward to a sellout crowd
cheering on the Minutemen."

UMass travels to the new Chafeitz
Center at Saint Louis on Jan. 14 before returning home to host age-old
rival Temple on Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. After a road game at Charlotte on
Jan. 21, the Minutemen return to the Mullins Center to host La Salle on
Jan. 24. UMass faces defending Atlantic 10 champion Xavier on Jan. 31
at 12 Noon in Cincinnati followed by back-to-back home games on Feb. 4
and Feb. 8 against Richmond and Saint Joseph's.

The Minutemen
have consecutive road games at Fordham and St. Bonaventure on Feb. 11
and 14 before alternating its final six regular season games of the
season. UMass plays its final three home games on Wednesday nights at 7
p.m. as it hosts Rhode Island on Feb. 18, Duquesne on Feb. 25 and
George Washington on March 4. The road games down the stretch are at
Saint Joseph's (which is playing at the Palestra this season due to
renovations at Hawk Hill) on Feb. 22, at La Salle on March 1 and at
Rhode Island on March 7 for the regular-season finale.

The Atlantic 10 Championships continue at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City on March 11-14, 2009.
