College Basketball: Top Games of 2005

Mark your calendars.. here are the top 20 games of 2005.  Some of them are obvious like Duke and UNC, but others you might not have expected.  With all these great games in store for the next few months, it should be an exciting journey to the 2005 Final Four.

1. Duke at UNC, March 6: Classic rivalry where UNC probably will finally enter as the favorite.

2. Illinois at Wisconsin, January 25: #1 Illinois goes into 'Sconsin where the Badgers try to extend the nations longest home winning streak.

3. Oklahoma St. at Kansas, February 27: Seniors in the spotlight in a big-time Big 12 clash.

4. Arizona at Washington, February 24: Both are legit national title contenders.

5. UNC at UConn, February 13: Two of the most talented teams in the country meet in Storrs for a high-flying, high-scoring showdown.

6. Maryland at Wake Forest, January 11: Like great point guard play? Aren't too many better than Paul or Gilchrist.

7. Syracuse at UConn, March 5: Last two national champs know how to play big games in March.

8. Kentucky at Alabama, February 26: The only time these two meet; young talent will be on display in Tuscaloosa.

9. Creighton at Southern Illinois, February 12: Take a good look at them now, chances are one of them will be upsetting your favorite team come March...

10. Cincinnati at Louisville, February 2: Class of the C-USA meet in a showdown of two very successful coaches.

11. Gonzaga at St. Mary's, January 8: Forget about the Gaels' shaky play of late, this is Gonzaga's best shot for a conference loss.

12. Penn at Princeton, March 8: The implications of this Ivy League showdown are almost always enormous.

13. Texas at Oklahoma St., March 5: Experience vs. Youth, but as they say there are no such things as Freshmen in March.

14. Michigan St. at Iowa, February 5: No bigger surprise this season than the Hawkeyes, will look to continue their winning ways when Izzo's Spartans come to town.

15. Syracuse at Pitt, January 29: Sorry guys, but you won't be able to run away from tough competition come Big East play.

16. Georgia Tech at UNC, January 12: See game #5.

17. Northern Iowa at Wichita St., February 28: Creighton and SIU are not the only teams making noise in a surprisingly strong MVC.

18. UTEP at Nevada, January 13: Will the Miners upseat the Kirk Snyder-less Wolfpack as the best of the WAC.

19. Temple at UMASS, January 5: The two A-10 East rivals have the best chances of joining GW in the Dance.

20. Vermont at BU, February 12: Laughing yet? Michigan and Kansas weren't after their games against these two strong American East teams.
