Games of the Night: Louisville at UCONN

January 28th, 2008

Games of the Night

A companion to our daily Three Stars of the Day, we present the top three Games of the Night.

Louisville (15-5) at UCONN (14-5)

7:00 PM ESPN

Both teams head into this Big Monday match up feeling good about themselves.  UCONN pulled off the upset of #8 Indiana despite the suspensions of Dyson & Wiggins.  Louisville has quietly won 6 of 7 games to move into 2nd place in the Big East. At least for one of the teams, the good vibes will come to an end. I'm certain on a neutral court or in Louisville, the Cardinals would be the easy pick here. But UCONN has won 3 straight, including a blow out of Marquette last week.. and Austrie's done a nice job stepping in for the suspended players.  Still, I'm going with the visitors.

Prediction: Louisville

#24 Saint Mary's (17-2) at San Diego (10-11)

10:00 PM

As BCS teams continue to lose, it should help SMC push even higher in the rankings when they're released later in the day. Still, outside of a few bad minutes against Pepperdine last week, they haven't been tested in WCC play. San Diego should be somewhat of a challenge though as the Toreros are 3-1 in league play and better than their 10-11 record suggests. Brandon Johnson and Gyno Pomare are USD's formidable duo, but Pomare hasn't really been playing great ball in recent weeks.

Prediction: Saint Mary's

Oklahoma State (10-9) at Oklahoma (14-5)

9:00 PM ESPN

Oklahoma is definitely the better team, though they haven't really dominated at home in Big 12 games. They barely beat Texas Tech last week, and lost to Kansas State before that. These results should give a weak Oklahoma State team some hope. With OSU's James Anderson and OU's Blake Griffin involved, at least there's some good young talent to check out even if the game isn't competitive.

Prediction: Oklahoma
