LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell senior Chris McNaughton (Leutershausen, Germany/Dientzenhofer Gymnasium) parlayed two outstanding performances in Bison victories last week into Patriot League Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Monday.
In Thursday’s 76-58 Patriot League victory over Lafayette, McNaughton scored 21 points on 7 of 10 shooting from the field and 7-8 accuracy from the foul line. He added six rebounds and a career-high four assists. A dozen of his 21 points came in the first half as the Bison opened up a 20-point halftime lead.
Less than 48 hours later, McNaughton scored 17 of his season-high 23 points in the first half of a 73-63 O’Reilly ESPNU BracketBusters win over Towson. He was 11-for-14 from the field against the Tigers, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked three shots.
For the week, the Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year averaged 22.0 points per game and shot 75.0 percent from the floor (18-24).
Now 18-8 on the season, the Bison bring a 10-game winning streak into Wednesday night’s conference game at Lehigh. McNaughton has been at his best during the streak, averaging 13.9 points and 8.4 rebounds while shooting 62.5 percent from the field. He now ranks second in the Patriot League in field-goal percentage (.568) and fourth in rebounding (5.7) on the season.
With two regular-season games to play – at Lehigh on Wednesday and at Army on Saturday – the Bison are 11-1 in the conference and tied for first place with Holy Cross.
