Cedar Falls, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa men’s basketball
team has signed two players to national letters of intent, UNI head
coach Ben Jacobson announced today. Inking to play with the Panthers
beginning in the 2007-08 campaign are 6-10 forward *Brent Barz
(Johnston, Iowa/Johnston High School)* and 6-6 forward *Lucas O’Rear
(Nashville, Ill./Nashville High School).* **

Barz averaged 16.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game as a
junior for Johnston High. He has garnered first-team all-conference
honors each of the last two years, earning third team all-state
accolades as a sophomore and being named second team all-state as a
junior. This past summer he participated in the prestigious Nike
All-America camp in Indianapolis, Ind.

“Brent has exceptional skills for a player of his size,” Jacobson said.
“He has the ability to score inside as well as from the perimeter, and
is a great passer. He continues the trend of quality Iowa high school
players to join our program in recent years. Brent has a real passion
for our university and our basketball program. He is going to have a
great career.”

O’Rear averaged 18.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per game as a junior, while
shooting 68 percent from the field. He was a first team Class A all-state selection in 2005, while earning
second team all-state honors in 2006. He has scored 1,476 career points
and grabbed 762 rebounds entering his senior season at Nashville High.

“Lucas plays the power forward position with a point guard’s mentality,”
Jacobson said. “He has a tremendous feel for the game. With his size and
ball-handling skills, he will be a very difficult matchup. Lucas plays
with an intensity and toughness that our fans will love. We’re excited
to have a player of his caliber join our program.”
