Stephane Lasme: NBA Draft Profile

April 15th, 2007

NBA Draft: Stephane Lasme

College: UMASS

Class: Senior

Position: PF

Height: 6”8”

Weight: 220lbs

Accolades:  Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year (06), Atlantic 10 All-Defensive Team (06), Honorable Mention All-American – AP (07), Atlantic 10 Player of the Year (07), Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year (07), First Team All-Atlantic 10 (07), Atlantic 10 All-Defensive Team (07).

Scouting Report: A menacing shotblocker who can leap out of the gym.

Strengths: Unbelievable shotblocker – averaged over five a game his senior year.  Great rebounder.  Very strong physique.  Very good hands for a big guy.  Can put the ball on the floor to score inside.  Great jumping ability and strong dunker.  Really improved his offensive numbers his junior and senior seasons.  Triple double potential – had four his senior season.

Weaknesses: Will be undersized for the power forward spot in the NBA.  Very foul prone.  Still very raw and inexperienced.  Offensive game is still a work in progress.  Is much older than other senior prospects – he will turn 25 in December.

Projected 2007 Draft Range: Late second round pick – undrafted.

Consensus:  Lasme is one of those prospects with “upside”.  He is a very good leaper, has a solid frame and athletic ability.   His offensive ability, size (he needs to add a few pounds) and age are all negatives though.  Will a NBA team really want to use a pick on an undersized project who is 24, going on 25 years old?
