UWM Suspends Avery Smith
MILWAUKEE - Senior guard Avery Smith has been suspended indefinitely from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's basketball team for a violation of team rules, head coach Rob Jeter announced prior to tonight's exhibition game with UW-Parkside.
"As a head coach, I strive to give my players every opportunity and chance to succeed. But, with the season starting tonight, I need to concern myself with the progress of the entire team and not just one individual," Jeter said. "We have a large group of players on the team, both veterans and newcomers, and those players have been showing their commitment every day to making us a better team and a better program. So, I have focused my energy on getting the guys in that locker room ready for tonight's game."
Smith was UWM's leading scorer a season ago, averaging 15.5 points per game, and was a preseason first-team All-Horizon League selection.
