Reliant Stadium Information

Reliant Stadium is the home of the NFL’s Houston Texans and is currently the only NFL stadium to feature a retractable roof. The stadium is housed in Reliant Park, a sprawling, versatile facility that can host any number of different venues and events. Besides Reliant Stadium, Reliant Park features the Astrodome, previous home of the Houston Astros, Reliant Center, and Reliant Arena. Both the Arena and the Center are more suited for conference hosting, while the Stadium is for sporting events. The official capacity during NFL games is 71,500; however, these numbers will be adjusted as the Reliant prepares to host NCAA Basketball.

Normally reserved for the NFL’s Detroit Lions, Ford Field, located in downtown Detroit, Michigan, will once again open its doors for NCAA Basketball. On December 13, 2003, Ford Field featured the largest crowd to ever watch a basketball game when the University of Kentucky played the Michigan State University. Over 78,000 people were in attendance. In order to blend the facility in with the Detroit skyline, the playing field is set below street level, much like the neighboring Comerica Park. The standard capacity for Ford Field is 62,000.

The US Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona is home to the NBA’s Phoenix Suns and is considered one of the Phoenix Points of Pride. The Center can hold 18,422 and features a new Pavilion entrance, complete with large glass walls, 12x20 video screen and over 14,000 square feet of indoor space. “The Purple Palace”—as called by Phoenix Suns fans—also features the Bud Light PASEO, an indoor/outdoor venue that comes with a bar area and can support full-sized stage shows.

Charlotte Bobcats Arena
The Charlotte Bobcats Arena or “Bobcats” for short, is located in downtown Charlotte, North Carolina and boasts a 20,200 seating capacity for college basketball games. As the name indicates, it serves as the home for the NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats. When built, the arena was designed with multiple purposes in mind like hosting concerts, professional wrestling, and Monster Truck events. Bobcats also features the largest scoreboard of any indoor entertainment venue and the largest video screen in use in any NBA facility.
