Toney Douglas: NBA Draft Profile

April 27th, 2009

Toney Douglas

College: Florida State

Class: Senior

Position: PG/SG

Height: 6’2”

Weight: 200lbs

Accolades: Third Team All-American - CHN (09), Third Team All-American - AP (09), First Team All-ACC (09), ACC Defensive Player of the Year (09), All-ACC Defensive Team (09), First Team All-ACC Tournament (09), Third Team All-ACC (08), All-ACC Defensive Team (08), Third Team All-SEC (05), All-SEC Freshman Team (05), Fourth Team Parade All-American - high school (04).

Scouting Report: An explosive scoring combo guard.

Strengths: Big time scorer. Great defender. Capable of explosive scoring outbursts. Three-point range on his jumper - hit 240 for his career. Very good at drawing fouls and knocking down his free throws. Can hit tough shots over defenders. Very experienced - played big minutes for four years in major conferences. Can create his own shot off the dribble. Strong ball-handler.

Weaknesses: 23-years-old already. Not a true point guard - doesn‘t set up teammates. Stuck between positions for the NBA - not a point, too small for a 2-guard. Can be inconsistent (he did finish the season off strong though). Takes a lot of shots. Horrible assist/turnover ratio for a point guard - only had 10 more assists than turnovers for his career.

Projected 2009 Draft Range: Early second round pick to undrafted.

Consensus: Despite a spectacular senior season, making the NBA might be a struggle for Toney Douglas. Over-age combo guards aren’t in real high demand - Europe is a more realistic situation for him.
